Explore the highest mountains of the island with traditional villages, caves, plateaus, rolling vineyards, mythology and the local life here in Crete.
The journey starts from Gazi where we head straight off road along the river bed to the picturesque village of Pendamodi, for a short stop to see the quaint church and natural spring.
We drive our way through the vineyards of the largest wine producing area on the island to the village of Krousonas where we have the opportunity to taste local products such as Olive Oil and Raki. Here we have free time for a coffee to relax and enjoy the stunning views.
Driving on towards Livadi Plateau we see some of the many apple orchards in the area and no doubt meet some friendly local goats. As we head to our next stop of the Nida Plateau the highest point of our day, with views of the highest mountain ‘Psiloritis’ which is capped with snow most of the year.
You will hear tales of the Resistance and Crete’s rich history with a visit of a very unusual monument and a traditional Shepherds ‘mitato’ where you can experience the traditional way of cheese making.
Our next highlight is a visit to the Ideon Andron cave, where mythology states that Zeus took refuge here and escaped death. Building up an appetite we make our way to the famous village of Anogia where we have a delicious BBQ lunch with unlimited wine (vegetarian option available) with views of the highest plateau on the island. Once refreshed go for a short walk where you can visit the center of Anogia.
Before we slowly make our journey back off road to the home of El Greco which is the village of Fodele where you have the chance to relax before we are heading homewards. This day is packed full of amazing photo opportunities with excitement second to none.
