About this tour

Heraklion city tour give us the opportunity to visit the old Venetian Castle with its well kept fortes and wall. Our journey continues to the Pantokrator Gate better known as Hanioporta with two arched arcades with different entrances, one is leading to the west and the other (military arcade) to the south low square of the Pantocrator bastion.

At the highest point of the Venetian Walls is the tomb of the great Cretan writer, Nikos Kazantzakis. On the south side of the Venetian Walls on today’s Evans Street is the gate of Jesus or New Gate built in 1587. From here also entered Heraklion, the pipeline that upplied water to the city through the giant Venetian aqueduct. We continue and end up at the center of Heraklio at freedom square, with the statue of Eletherios Venizelos (former Prime Minister).

Then you will have free time to walk through the old part of Heraklio city as well ‹
Lions square, St Titos Cathedral, the old market, and have tree time for shopping, lunch ,coffee before we take our way back to the hotels.
